Itinerary:

Day 1 Bari

  • Arrival at Bari or Brindisi Airport and transfer to your hotel
  • Welcome drink and time at leisure
  • Typical Pugliese dinner at a centrally located restaurant
  • Overnight  Bari hotel

 Day 2 Locorotondo – Castellana Grottte – Locorotondo 

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • After breakfast depart for Castellana Grotte, a marvelous underground world.
  • The Caves discovered in 1938 represent one of the most important series of natural underground caves in Italy and Europe. See the natural galleries and the prodigious wealth of crystalline concretions.
  • Lunch on your own
  • In the afternoon continue onto Locorotondo for a wine/oil tasting.
  • In the myriad of Trulli found in valle d’Itria Area, a dominant feature is the cooperative wine cellar near Locorotondo, now a milestone in the production of Bianco Locorotondo 
  • Dinner

Day 3 Locorotondo – Matera – Altamura – Locorotondo

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • After breakfast depart for Matera.
  • The old city of Matera is a unique example of a cultural tradition and civilization which stretches back to the Neolithic age. It was created out of a rocky ravine. The numerous natural caves are carved out one above the other and arranged like a labyrinth of houses. 
  • Lunch on your own
  • Transfer to Altamura, located in the very center of Altopianodelle Murge
  • Visit the cathedral, the only church in Apulia built following Frederick II’s will. 
  • In late afternoon return to hotel
  • Dinner

Day 4 Locorotondo  – Alberobello – Martina Franca – Ostuni – Locorotondo

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • After breakfast depart for Alberobello, “the village of the trulli”, and visit the church of San Cosmaand Damiano, Church of Trullo and Trullo Sovrano.
  • Continue to Martina Franca which overlooks the charming Valle d’Itria; the main attraction of the town is the historical center. Martina Franca is a splendid example of Baroque art, with its narrow streets and monumental churches.
  • Next, continue to Ostuni, also known as the “White City”. A picturesque town characterize by white washed attractive houses.
  • Visit the Gothic cathedral, the column of Sant’Oronzoand the houses of Corte.
  • Return to hotel

Day 5 Locorotondo – Otranto

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • After breakfast depart for Otranto
  • Lunch on your own
  • Half day guided tour of Otranto
  • Visit the Cathedral, the Crypt and the Tower bell, three buildings of the Norman age (1080).
  • The Cathedral of Otranto possesses the largest mosaic in Europe portraying mythological characters.
  • Visit the small St. Peter’s Church, one of the last byzantine churches, in which are kept frescos of different ages: the oldest,“The washing of the feet” and “The Last Supper” date back to the 9th and 10th centuries, the others date back to the 14th and 16th centuries.
  • Finish the tour at the Aragonese Castle, reinforced by Emperor Frederick II and rebuilt by Alphonso II of Naples, in 1485-1498. In origin it had a single entrance reachable through a drawbridge; towers include three cylindrical ones and bastion called Punta di Diamante (“Diamond’s Edge”).

Day 6 Otranto – Lecce – Otranto

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Depart for Lecce. See the Piazza Duomo where you can view the majestic five sided belfry (1661-82), the Cathedral of Assunta, the Bishop’s Palace (1420-28) and the seminary.
  • Half day guided visit of this Baroque city
  • Lunch on your own
  • Afternoon at leisure
  • Dinner
  • Overnight Otranto hotel

Day 7 Otranto – Gallipoli – Nardo’ – Galatina – Otranto 

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • After breakfast board the coach and drive to Gallipoli located by the Ionian sea, on the west coast of the Salentina peninsula.
  • The town of Gallipoli is divided in two parts, the modern and the old city.
  • The new town includes all the newest buildings including a skyscraper.
  • The old town, instead, is located on a limestone island, linked to the mainland by a bridge built in the 16th century.
  • Go to Nardò, a Baroque town in the heart of the Salento with Baroque monuments, Baroque churches and masserie (typical ancient fortified farmhouses).
  • On the way back to Otranto stop in Galatin and admire the Romanesque church of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria; its interior contains frescoes by Francesco D’Arezzo.
  • In late afternoon return to hotel
  • Dinner
  • Overnight Otranto hotel

Day 8 Otranto – Manduria – Bari 

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Depart for Manduria, a quiet town. The land of Primitivo and the famous Primitivo di Manduria DOC, which has been capable of astounding the world-class palates of professionals.
  • Many wineries that produce the DOC can be found in and around Manduria.
  • We will stop in one of these wineries and taste an excellent Primitivo.
  • Lunch on your own
  • Continue to Bari
  • Farewell dinner at a local restaurant
  • Return to hotel
  • Overnight Bari hotel

 Day 9 Departure Bari to Bari or Brindisi Apt

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Transfer by private coach to the airport for your return flight.
