Meet your personal driver at your hotel lobby and start an amazing daytrip in the Umbria region. Your first stop will be the town of Orvieto, a such an impressive city that has been called “the city high and strange.” The town was built on top of a volcanic rock reachable via a cable car. Take your time to discover this pearl of the Umbria region, with its Duomo, a true masterpiece of the Italian art. It is a perfect combination of architecture, carving and painting. The façade is adorned by beautiful mosaics, while in the interior the St. Brizio chapel boasts the magnificent Renaissance frescoes by Luca Signorelli depicting the final Judgment. Walking along the city center, you will meet many churches and palaces, like the People’s Palace, a splendid 12th-century example of civic building made in tufa, perfectly harmonized with the medieval appearance of the city.
Among all this beauty, take the chance to taste some of the delicious products of the area, such as cured meat, cheeses and wine!
After relaxing lunch time (not included), your exploration could continue to the St. Patrick’s Well, a deep well encircled by two spiral staircases each with 248 wide steps to provide an emergency water supply in the event of a siege, genial work by the papal architect Antonio di Sangallo the Younger.
Reflecting to its Etruscan foundation, at the foot of Orvieto you can still see the “Crocifisso del Tufo”, the Etruscan necropolis that shows many tombs placed in form of houses and streets. At the end of the tour your personal driver will lead you back to your location.
