Villa Adriana
In the Historia Augusta is told that Emperor Adrian wanted to replicate in his Tivoli Villa the most famous places of antiquity, especially those of Greece, like the Academy, the Lyceum and Hades. The visit will develop in a parallel itinerary which will alternate the Roman architecture and the figure who wanted it: Adrian. Canopo of Villa Adriana
Villa D’este
“…everywhere you look water gushes in so many ways and with such a splendid design that there is not a place in the World which in this is not greatly inferior…” (Letter by Uberto Foglietta to Flavio Orsino, 1569). Built as wished by Cardinal Ippolito D’Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia and grandson of Alexander VI, it represents a perfectly preserved example of Giardino all’Italiana. A spectacular display of fountains, mostly recently restored, in an itinerary that will be structured between statues, gardens and ornamental water features.
